IoT does not have an exact definition and is constantly evolving and changing. The overall idea behind IoT deals with physical objects being able to communicate with the internet without any personal interaction.
Kevin Ashton, an expert on digital innovation, gives his take on IoT in an article for the RFID Journal in 1999:
"If we had computers that knew everything there was to know about things - using data they gathered without any help from us - we would be able to track and count everything, and greatly reduce waste, loss and cost. We would know when things needed replacing, repairing or recalling, and whether they were fresh or past their best".
